Pop. 162, Mid-Autumn of 347 (Year 96)

One of the youngest soldiers of the fortress, Olin Channelflashes, went missing. At fourteen years of age, he killed his first goblin during a siege in the Spring. Olin wasn't injured as far as anyone could tell. The last known sighting of him was during a sparring match. Though friends and family searched high and low, his corpse was never found. Fearing the work of vampires or worse, the aid of a higher power (DFHack deathcause) was invoked. It was revealed that young Olin had ventured too close to a drawbridge. Despite clear warnings and guidelines regarding safe paths around them, he was crushed while one was in operation.

Lift Those Legs!

Pop. 163, Midwinter of 346 (Year 95)

Datan Dippedtowers, the dragonslayer who ushered in the Second Age of Legends, suffered a serious spinal cord injury 68 years ago. Since that time, she has been unable to walk at all, unlike the few crutch-users in the fortress. Rather than retire her completely, she was given command of the recruit squad. Despite the inability to walk, her ability to impart useful information through demonstrations has been renowned. According to the newest recruits, she has even improvised KICKING demonstrations!

Pop. 163, Late Autumn of 346 (Year 95)

Former Commander Sphalerite, one of the Original Seven, killed 316 foes before he met his untimely end in 313. Still, his record remained unbroken for 33 years. It was finally surpassed by Dishmab Shootwondered-Vesselbrain during a goblin siege.



Normally stationed at the northern trade gate, Dishmab and half of her squad were keeping watch near the southern wall due to clean-up from a previous siege. A squad of trolls tried to enter the trade tunnels, but Dishmab, wielding the artifact lead mace, Drumseer the Contemptible Loot, quickly showed them the error of their ways. Utes the troll provided the record-breaking kill as the dwarves beat back the siege just in time for the arrival of the dwarven caravan.

Bestra Jewelsweltered

Pop. 158, Late Spring of 346 (Year 95)



A new dragon from the wilds was captured! With the addition of Bestra Jewelsweltered, the fortress's dragon population has grown to 15 (2 adults and 13 hatchlings).

Mother of the Mayor

Mosus Lanterngaze, mother of the current mayor Mosus II Lanterngaze-Anguishedpages, passed away peacefully. Her final years were filled with pride in her daughter who helped Relicshield recover from the tantrum spiral that occurred over 20 years ago.

Nganiz Brandedfire

Though the dwarves of Relicshield have long felt an affinity for dragons, wild ones have remained a threat. Nganiz Brandedfire attacked before any preparations for capture could be organized. She was slain by the swordsdwarf Mebzuth II Orbgroup, with the help of the marksdwarf Uvash Cresenttours. Unfortunately, a civilian, Libash Graniteright, was nicked by Nganiz's breath and died soon after.

Reservists to the Rescue

Pop. 159, Early Winter of 344 (Year 93)

Following the advice of other settlements, a majority of the general workers have been conscripted as military reservists. Clad in leather armor and armed with wooden crossbows, they've proven to be a reliable first response to low level threats, like thieves.

One unlucky kobold thief attacked Ushat Fissuretour while the unarmed dyer was helping to clear out the aftermath of a siege. Immediately, the nearest haulers let loose with their bolts. The kobold only managed a minor cut to Ushat's lower body before being chased out of the trade tunnels and slain. Tosid Freeoil landed the killing shot. Ushat the dyer only suffered a cut to his lower body and was able to walk to the hospital on his own :).
