Time to Shine

Pop. 150, Late Summer of 351 (Year 100)

Inspired by the performance of the elite soldiers, four of the the fortress's 2nd tier soldiers felt that it was also their time to shine. The gladiators were marksdwarf Logem Graniteright, his 18 year old nephew, macedwarf Besmar Graniteright, and the two axedwarves, Shorast Channelflashes and Uvash Earthennourishes.

9 goblin snatchers, 1 kobold thief, and 1 minotaur were thrown into the arena. The thieves and minotaur did not fight, unlike the previous match. Once the gate opened, the minotaur rushed at the youngest dwarf, Besmar. While his uncle Uvash was busy shooting at snatchers, Besmar did his best against the raging bull-headed beast. It attacked him relentlessly, keeping the young soldier off balance and unable to counterstrike.

Still, Besmar managed to dodge or block every attack until Uvash cleaved the beast in two with his axe, Morningwhisper.

Cause of Death

Pop. 162, Mid-Autumn of 347 (Year 96)

One of the youngest soldiers of the fortress, Olin Channelflashes, went missing. At fourteen years of age, he killed his first goblin during a siege in the Spring. Olin wasn't injured as far as anyone could tell. The last known sighting of him was during a sparring match. Though friends and family searched high and low, his corpse was never found. Fearing the work of vampires or worse, the aid of a higher power (DFHack deathcause) was invoked. It was revealed that young Olin had ventured too close to a drawbridge. Despite clear warnings and guidelines regarding safe paths around them, he was crushed while one was in operation.

3rd Generation

Pop. 127, Spring of 303 (Year 52)

The duchy's 3rd generation is well underway!

The first child abducted from the fortress was also known as Mosus, but this auspicious birth has helped to remove the pall cast on that name. In their mid-twenties, Olin Anguishedpages and Mosus II Lanterngaze-Anguishedpages were the youngest parents of the fortress, until the birth of Onol III to Onol II Lanterngaze and Stakud II Roughwhips-Lanterngaze, at 13 years of age!

First Siege

Pop. 58, Late Summer of 265 (Year 14)

The fortress faced its first siege, but from a surprising enemy. Rather than goblins, it was the humans! The citizens of Relicshield were shocked, as trade had been going well with the tall ones. Rumors have it that the goblins framed the dwarves with the death of a human diplomat from the year before. Still, for a siege, it was rather small. The humans only fielded 21 soldiers, including one mounted on a giant snail :o. Dodok Calmedbust the marksdwarf drew first blood with a fatal headshot to an axeman and set the tone for the rest of the battle.

14 of the humans were slain, causing the rest to flee in terror.

Meanwhile, Relicshield mourned the first loss of a military dwarf. He died not in battle, but of old age, having lived his 169 years to the fullest.
