Pop. 155, Late Autumn of 349 (Year 98)
The Evils of Spray laid siege right after the arrival of the dwarven caravan. There were many reservists close by on the ramparts, as well as in the field gathering plunder from the previous battle. They held off the goblins until the elite troops arrived, saving all the merchants and their beasts of burden. The fortress-wide siege alert wasn't even needed for the first time in Relicshield's history! Reservists throughout the fortress carried out their duties, fighting when necessary and hauling items once the enemies nearby were defeated.

Heavy Leather
Pop. 155, Mid-Autumn of 349 (Year 98)
While retrieving some items from a dump, siege engineer Sigun Bannerrain was killed when struck by a piece of leather thrown into the pit from above :(.

The worker Doren Faithtorch was also injured by falling leather while retrieving Sigun's body. He only suffered a bruise, but Mayor Mosus II Lanterngaze-Anguishedpages immediately forbid all items in the vicinity. It's unsure how any items in that area had been marked for retrieval. As a precaution, all dump sites were placed under review.
Soon after, several other dwarves were found injured, including Zefon Taxeddagger, son of the late Duke Phyllite Taxeddagger. After being struck by falling junk, he fell unconscious on top of a cage trap. He was quickly rescued and taken to the hospital, where he joined three other dwarves recuperating from similar injuries: Stakud II Lanterngaze, Logem Chanceblockades, and Asmel II Lighttool.

Caught in the Siege
Pop. 157, Late Summer of 349 (Year 98)
The goblins laid siege just as the human caravan arrived. Even though the marksdwarves on the ramparts did well, the number of goblins surrounding the humans was just too much. Several of the merchants were saved, but they refused to do business after their friends were slaughtered.

Marksdwarf Defense
Late Spring of 349 (Year 98)
The reservists patrolling the wall had their first taste of action. A yeti was spotted heading toward the trade tunnels, but it was soon stopped by a hail of bolts. Sigun Bannerrain delivered the killing strike.

Wall and Towers
Relicshield, pop. 157, Mid-Spring of 349 (Year 98)
The wall and archery tower project has finally been completed! There are now archery towers guarding the entrances to the underground trade network, with an extra tower at each of the cardinal directions, for a total of 16. All the towers are connected by a wall set with fortifications. With 70 reservists on-call from the civilian populace, the towers and wall are patrolled by ~35 marksdwarves at any given time.

Beware the Werelemur II
Pop. 159, Mid-Autumn of 348 (Year 97)
There was another werelemur attack, but this time a civilian, Cilob Gillhandle, was bitten before help could arrive. Due to the wrongful death of Cerol Typhoonmetals-Mirrorwasps in the first year of the fortress, caution tempered with mercy was urged for Cilob. First, a war leopard and war grizzly were assigned to her. Then 4 soldiers, including Commander Dishmab and Cilob's older sister, Kadol Lighttool, were stationed in the infirmary. Though werecreatures were known for their healing abilities, Cilob's wounds were too grievous to wait without treatment until the next full moon.
Cilob's treatment took 3 weeks, after which she was quarantined. The barrier wall was completed on the 7th of Timber, only a day before the full moon. Once the moon appeared on the horizon... nothing happened at first, but on the 9th of Timber, Cilob transformed. The war animals assigned to her were also in the quarantine room, as they could not be separated from her in time for the full moon. Both the leopard and grizzly immediately attacked after Cilob's transformation. The fight was fierce, but the grizzly landed the killing blow.

Accident at the Wall
Pop. 161, Mid-Winter of 347 (Year 96)
Work has continued on the wall surrounding the capital, along with the 16 archery towers connected by it. Unfortunately, when some misplaced constructions were torn down, the support they provided wasn't realized until it was too late.

The crashing rock killed one dwarf and injured several others, along with a war bear. Asmel Anguishedpages lost his friend, Uzoldoren, and was full of grief. Nevertheless, he continued with his work on the wall without any interruption, both a tribute to his friend and to dwarven fortitude in the face of adversity.

Meanwhile, the medic Sarvesh Channelelder rallied from a near-fatal head injury.

Though her skull was broken, Sarvesh suffered no permanent complications and made a full recovery.
